In the last decade, the world of payments has come a long way. Electronic payments has overtaken paper-based instruments. Credit cards have cemented their position as the primary method of payment for a majority of people.

Yet, as Americans become more fiscally conservative, debit card use is poised to overtake that of credit cards. A new payment rail, in the form of Paypal has established itself as a significant player in online shopping.

The world of payments is undergoing monumental changes. In this series I will discuss the forces that I believe will drive innovations in payment systems over the next 3-5 years.
